On behalf of the Victorian Government, Sustainability Victoria is supporting households to make the switch to electric through a community-led program aimed at teaching Victorian households about the benefits of home electrification.

The Community Electrification Engagement Program (CEEP) is funding 6 community organisations to run place-based energy literacy programs to accelerate the uptake of electrification upgrades in Victorian households. Funded programs will educate households on the benefits of replacing gas appliances with efficient electric alternatives.

Sustainability Victoria’s CEO Matt Genever said, ‘The Community Electrification Engagement Program has been designed to educate Victorian households on the advantages of electrification and help them make informed choices about what’s best for them while accelerating the uptake of electrification across the state.’

‘Engaging community organisations to deliver a place-based approach provides a trusted means to deliver information on the numerous electrification incentives and rebates available so that Victorians can maximise their benefits.’

The Gippsland Climate Change Network, Mount Alexander Sustainability Group, GV Community Energy, Hepburn Community Wind Farm Park Co-operative, Yarra Energy Foundation, and Geelong Sustainability Group have received a total of $660,000 in funding for tailored programs that address the unique needs of local communities to accelerate electrification.

Activities will include community events, workshops, and drop-in sessions. They will also emphasise engagement with priority groups such as low-income earners, renters, First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) households.

The projects, to be delivered over the upcoming financial year, will build awareness of the various Victorian Government electrification incentives which include the SEC Electric Home Planner, Victorian Energy Upgrades Program, and Solar Victoria rebates.

‘Engaging community organisations to deliver a place-based approach provides a trusted means to deliver information on the numerous electrification incentives and rebates available so that Victorians can maximise their benefits,’ explained Genever.
