Through Sustainability Victoria’s Recycling Victoria Infrastructure Fund – Materials program, $5.73 million has been awarded to 6 Victorian projects to build new recycling and remanufacturing facilities across the state, as well as upgrade existing ones, so that less materials end up in landfill.

The projects will process up to 20,000 tonnes of glass, 289,500 tonnes of organics and 40,000 tonnes of textiles every year. They will also improve the quality of 146,000 tonnes of organic material and 5,000 tonnes of glass every year. This enables the industry and councils to recycle more of these materials for: reuse in agriculture; constructing new roads; manufacturing soundproofing material, insulation material, carpets and blankets.

The projects will leverage $24.4 million of industry investment in Victoria’s recycling infrastructure and create more than 75 new jobs for the state.

This Victorian Government investment will increase the state’s capacity to sort, process and remanufacture materials through innovative infrastructure and technology.

Recycling Victoria: Building our circular economy

These projects will support Victoria’s transition to a 4-bin recycling system that will overhaul the household recycling collection system.

The projects are funded through the Recycling Victoria Infrastructure Fund, which is part of the Victorian Government’s $515 million investment to transform the state’s waste and recycling sector. That investment also includes $380 million for the Victorian Government’s circular economy policy Recycling Victoria: A new economy, which will fundamentally reduce waste, boost jobs and establish a recycling system Victorians can rely on.
