Consider your Christmas tree

If you’ve got your heart set on a real Christmas tree, consider mulching it and using it on your garden when the festivities are over. If you don’t have a mulcher, some local councils or tree farms will collect your tree, mulch it, and return it to the soil to support future trees.

The green thumbs among us could also look into growing their own Christmas tree. Try the traditional pine, or pick an Australian native like a holly-leaf grevillea or a woolly bush.

For those who prefer an artificial Christmas tree, invest in a good-quality, sustainable alternative that can be used again and again, like a wooden tree.
