Wrap recycled

One of the biggest sources of Christmas waste comes from our wrapping paper.

Instead of buying new, use newspaper or fabric with recyclable string or old ribbons. Make your wrapping part of the gift itself by using a new tea-towel, scarf, handkerchief or beach towel.

If you do want to fork out for new wrapping paper, be sure to avoid the shiny kind with glitter or foil which can’t be recycled. Brown paper is your safest bet, but if you’re after a splash of colour, be sure the wrapping you buy is 100% recyclable.

If you’re unsure about whether your wrapping can be recycled, check your local council website.
