Sustainability Victoria has announced $4.5 million in funding through the Circular Economy Infrastructure Fund (CEIF) Hazardous Waste stream to increase the recovery and local reprocessing of hazardous waste and reduce the amount and impact of waste going to landfill.

Hazardous Waste – Round 3, funded through the Victorian Government’s circular economy policy, Recycling Victoria: a new economy, aims to build the capacity, capability, and resilience of Victoria’s resource recovery sector and improve the use and quality of recycled materials to make new products.

Funding will support industry and local government infrastructure projects focused on safe management and high value recovery of low-level contaminated soils, Reportable Priority Wastes (RPW) and specified priority wastes.

Previous recipients include a soil washing plant to transform contaminated soils into re-usable aggregate, sand and road base and a plant to treat PFAS contaminated water.

Matt Genever, Sustainability Victoria’s Interim CEO said, “This $4.5 million round three funding to address the recovery of hazardous waste contributes to a total of $9.2 million over three years, reflecting the Victorian Government’s commitment to improve the environment and recover valuable materials for reuse.

“This investment will not only reduce the amount and impact of potentially harmful waste from landfill but will increase economic development opportunities for the state.”

Applicants can propose both proven and innovative technology solutions for the Victorian hazardous waste sector. Industry applicants must co-contribute at least $2 for every $1 funded and local government applicants at least $1 for every $1 funded. There is no funding cap per project.
