Funding to support local governments and alpine resort management boards to use recycled materials in infrastructure projects.

Fund recipients

Alpine Shire Council

Council is building a 26 km shared recreational trail linking regional communities between Harrietville and Bright. This project will use Reconophalt, an asphalt product that includes recycled soft plastics, glass, toner from printer cartridges and reclaimed asphalt.

Funding: $300,000

Bass Coast Shire Council

This project will fund the installation of safe and accessible seating and outdoor dining infrastructure made from recycled plastics.

Funding: $70,000

Buloke Shire Council

This project will redevelop a carpark at the newly developed Charlton Park precinct. The project will replace the existing gravel carpark with an asphalt mix that includes 3.5 per cent recycled glass and 10 per cent reclaimed asphalt pavement. This site is the main community and sporting precinct in the township and is one of the highest profile facilities in the Shire.

Central Goldfields Shire Council

Council is upgrading road pavement at a transfer station. This project will install concrete pavement to provide a stronger, more durable surface that will include recycled glass and aggregates.

City of Casey

City of Casey will install recycled plastic picket fencing around the oval at Arch Brown Reserve. This project complements the $1 Million Berwick Cricket Club Facilities Upgrade project.

City of Darebin

City of Darebin is redeveloping the KP Hardiman Hockey Field, this will include the installation of shock pads made of 98 per cent recycled rubber tyres, concrete containing recycled glass, recycled plastic in asphalt and outdoor furniture and recycled paper mulch for reseeding the surrounding grass areas.

City of Monash

This project will resurface the first local road in the City of Monash with Reconophalt, an asphalt product that includes recycled soft plastics, glass, toner from printer cartridges and reclaimed asphalt. The project will also use recycled rubber and glass in the construction of a cycleway and the product EG Tech Ecolite to complete a concrete path, using 95 per cent recycled glass sand.

City of Whittlesea

An area of failed pavement within Epping will be rehabilitated with a foam bitumen asphalt base course made from 97 per cent recycled materials. The recycled material will include recycled road base with glass, sand and aggregates.

City of Yarra

City of Yarra and the University of Melbourne will construct an innovative high infiltration permeable pavement that is made with recycled rubber and glass. This permeable pavement is made using 70 per cent recycled tyres, glass and crushed rocks that are bonded together by a polyurethane binder, that will reduce cracks caused by natural ground movements while sustaining light traffic loads.

Corangamite Shire

This project will install recycled plastic infrastructure along a 20km section of a shared walking and cycling path along the Great Ocean Road. The recycled plastic infrastructure includes fencing posts, bollards and directional signage.

Falls Creek Alpine Resort Management Board

This project includes the re-surfacing of the main access road to the Falls Creek Alpine Resort water treatment plant and transfer station, and degraded sections of car parking with Reconophalt, an asphalt product that includes recycled soft plastics, glass, toner from printer cartridges and reclaimed asphalt.

Frankston City Council

This project includes the construction of a pedestrian footpath, kerb and channel, parking, drainage upgrades, road resurfacing and traffic management improvements. ‍The project will use Polyrok Concrete, a blend of recycled soft plastics and concrete, the Green Pipe; a 100 per cent recycled plastic pipe and Reconophalt, an asphalt product that includes recycled soft plastics, glass, toner from printer cartridges and reclaimed asphalt.

Horsham Rural City Council

Council will install a new asphalt shared path using recycled rubber, outdoor furniture made from recycled plastic including park benches, bin surrounds and picnic settings and permeable pavers made from 100 per cent recycled content.

Latrobe City Council

Latrobe City Council, in partnership with Gippsland Asphalt and DASMA Recycling, will be installing an asphalt concrete product using 15 per cent recycled glass content as a substitute for fine particles within the asphalt mix. This will be the first trial under traffic loading of this product for both Latrobe City Council and Gippsland Asphalt.

Mildura Rural City Council

This project is part of the Mildura Riverfront Precinct Development and will include the construction of a carpark using the asphalt product Plastiphalt that uses recycled plastic. This project will also use the GEOHEX product which is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. This project will be the first installation of Plastiphalt in the North West of Victoria.

Southern Alpine Resort Management Board

Southern Alpine Resort Management Board will install Green Pipe which is made from 100 per cent recycled plastics and outdoor bin enclosures that are also made from recycled plastic.

Surf Coast Shire Council

The project is part of a pavilion redevelopment and will include the installation of furniture made out of recycled plastic including an elevated footpath and boardwalk, decking, outdoor seating and tables. This project will use recycled products that meet the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating requirements as this site is a high-risk fire area.

Yarra Ranges Council

Council will widen the highway for improved access to Warburton Water World using recycled rubber and glass in asphalt; constructing new footpaths using recycled fibre mesh and glass, and installing recycled plastic pipe for storm water drainage.

Funding: $300,000

Council will install recycled glass as a coloured road surface treatment for the replacement of traditional surface paint. The coloured road surface will be used on two cycleways that will increase the safety of this shared road.
