The tables below compare approximate annual running costs for various types of cooling systems for a range of areas cooled in an average existing (pre 2005) house in a Melbourne (mild) climate and average cooling usage.

Please note:

  • Figures last updated in December 2022.
  • The Energy star ratings for the refrigerative air conditioners are based on the new Zoned Energy Rating Label for air conditioners which came into effect in April 2020. Some models available in stores may still use to old Energy Rating Label, but the old Energy star ratings are not comparable to the new ones.
