Latrobe City Council: 2021 Finalist – Clean, affordable and secure energy

Last updated: 27 October 2021
Large silver generator Latrobe City Council is a finalist for an Industry Leader award in the Premier's Sustainability Awards 2021 – Clean, affordable and secure energy category.

Moving towards an environmentally sustainable future

Latrobe City Council applied a range of clean energy technologies to create energy and prevent emissions, including the installation of a Biogas Generator at the Hyland Highway Landfill. This is an example of applying a circular economy design to an otherwise wasted resource.

The Biogas Generator initiative has the potential to save substantial CO2 emissions over its 20-year lifespan, and will generate clean, low emission energy through utilising captured landfill gas.
