Detox your Home locations and registration

With your safety in mind, Detox your Home events are now drive-through and contactless, supported by a COVIDsafe plan.

Steps to safely dispose of your household chemicals

  1. Check what’s accepted
We don’t accept paint, fluorescent lights and batteries and some other items.
  2. Register online
Detox your Home events will resume in March 2021.

On the day, follow these safety procedures:

  • Clearly and accurately label your items:
    • Use the original packaging if possible. If not, write the contents clearly using a permanent marker
    • If you’re unsure of the contents, label them ‘unknown’.
  • Put your items safely in your empty car boot or ute tray.
  • Bring your Eventbrite order number (from your online registration).
  • Only one person per car. You won’t need to unload anything yourself.
  • Drive in and follow the signs and directions.
  • Stay in your car and our chemists will do the rest.

Follow all current public health measures at the time, including wearing a face covering if required and staying home if you feel unwell. Find the latest information and updates on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Victoria website.

If you can’t get to an event, store your household chemicals until you can safely dispose of them.

Items accepted and not accepted

Before attending a Detox your home event it is important that you check which toxic household chemicals are accepted at these events.

To find out more, view our Items accepted and not accepted at Detox your home events page.

How much you can drop off at a Detox your home event

There is no limit on the volume of materials you drop-off, however the maximum acceptable weight or size of any single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres.

Decanting is not permitted so bring chemicals in disposal containers.
