Kew High School, Kew East – fundraising biodiversity with CDS Vic

The Eco Crew at this government school of over 1000 students transformed drink container disposal and turned the results into cash through CDS Vic.

Students placed container collection bins in strategic areas such as canteen and kitchenette, using eye-catching signage and educated peers at assemblies. Along with changing how their school community deals with waste, they’ve raised over $700 towards gardening activities and supplies.

Sacred Heart College, Kyneton, and their journey to reduce resource use

This catholic school, with over 800 students, had a busy 2024. The school attended the Climate Change Education Forum, participated in summits and planting activities, added FOGO to its waste streams, and introduced sustainability year-level captains to support junior and senior leaders, as well as the Green Team.

The campus features recycling schemes for batteries, e-waste, cartridges, pens, and markers, as well as LED lights, timers for watering and heating/cooling and water tanks. These initiatives have reduced CO₂ emissions by 448 tonnes and cut waste and water consumption.
