Sustainability Victoria is proud to collaborate with our sponsors and partners, to help deliver the Premier’s Sustainability Awards and inspire Victorians to lead the way in sustainable innovation and practices.

EPA Victoria

Environment Protection Authority (EPA)

EPA is Victoria’s environmental regulator. Our role is to work with community, industry and businesses to protect the health of Victoria’s community and environment. We do this by preventing harm from pollution and waste.

On 1 July 2021, the Environment Protection Act 2017 was introduced to better protect Victoria’s environment from harm. An important part of the Act is the general environmental duty (GED). The GED applies to all Victorians and requires anyone conducting an activity that poses risks to public health and the environment to understand and minimise those risks. Every Victorian has a role to play in reducing the risks to our communities and environment from pollution and waste.

EPA is a science-based regulator, using data and evidence to guide our actions. We work with communities to better understand the things that matter to them and to explain our regulatory decisions.

Like you, we want Victoria’s environment to be a liveable, healthy place. A place where our air, water and land are free of harmful pollutants, now and always.

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)

DEECA brings together Victoria’s energy, environment, water, agriculture, forestry, resources, climate action, and emergency management functions into a single department to maximise connections between the environment, community, industry and economy.

Our public value outcomes

DEECA is focused on these public value outcomes:

  1. Reduced impact of major bushfires and other emergencies on people, property and the environment.
  2. Zero emission, climate-ready economy and community.
  3. Healthy, resilient and biodiverse environment.
  4. Reliable, efficient, accessible, safe and sustainable energy services.
  5. Productive and effective land management.
  6. Safe and sustainable water resources.
  7. A quality built environment.
  8. Sustainable and effective local governments

Our challenge is to improve Victoria’s liveability with a population that is expected to almost double by 2050, while responsibly tackling climate change and protecting our natural environment, infrastructure and heritage for future generations.

Proudly supporting the Thriving Environment category.

Melbourne Water

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life. That’s why together with other groups, we plan for and manage all elements of the water cycle for today, tomorrow and generations to come. From:

  • providing clean drinking water
  • treating sewage so we can recover and re-use our valued resources
  • planning to prevent flooding, to
  • keeping all 25,000km of Melbourne’s rivers, creeks and catchments healthy.

The impacts of climate change bring hotter and drier weather, more severe bushfires and unpredictable storms and floods, less rainfall over time, and, of course, the possibility of another drought. By 2030, over six million Melburnians will need water every day.

We are in the decade that matters when the actions we take now will define our future. That’s why at Melbourne Water, we are taking action to manage and protect the resources essential to our way of life.

Through all that we do, we recognise that the Traditional Owners of the region have connections to and hold ancient knowledge of the land and water that are inseparable from their lives. In tending to all the rivers, creeks and surrounding land of our greatest backyard, we work as partners, we listen, and we tell the truth with traditional owners throughout our region.

Proudly supporting the Circular Economy Innovation category.

Momentum Energy

We‘re the type of energy company who doesn’t do things by halves. We’re 100% owned by Hydro Tasmania, who make more renewable energy than anyone else in Australia. And they’ve been making renewables for more than a century. Together, Hydro and Momentum are well placed to drive the energy transition we need in the 21st century.

In our view, the more renewables we can have entering the grid the better. We’ve been creating new products and energy plans with our energy future in mind. And even Greenpeace seem to like us (I know, weird for an energy company) They rank us #2 in their 2022 Green Electricity Guide.

And when you support a company backed by a renewable energy generator, it’s like using your power bill to vote for the kind of energy future you’d like to see in this country, which is a good reason to go all in and make the switch.

Proudly supporting the Future Energy category.

Offering online and face-to-face education sessions, the team demonstrates to students of all ages that plastic isn't waste, it is in fact a precious resource, and by being part of the growing Circular Economy you can really make a huge difference.

Zero Plastics Australia is proud to produce the Premier’s Sustainability Awards trophies in 2023, with each trophy crafted from an average of 80 single use lids.
