Environment Protection Authority (EPA)
EPA is Victoria’s environmental regulator. We work with community, industry, and business to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of pollution and waste on our state’s environment and people.
On 1 July 2021, the Environment Protection Act 2017 was introduced to better protect Victoria’s environment from harm. An important part of the new Act is the general environmental duty (GED). The GED applies to all Victorians and requires anyone conducting an activity that poses risks to public health and the environment to understand and minimise those risks.
Like you, we want Victoria’s environment to be a liveable, healthy place. A place where our air, water and land are free of harmful pollutants, now and always.
In 2021, EPA sponsored the Healthy Environment Industry Leader award.

Solar Victoria
Created as a portfolio entity within the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning, Solar Victoria is responsible for the delivery of the Victorian Government’s $1.3 billion Solar Homes Program - one of the most ambitious and transformative renewable energy programs in Australia.
The program is a key initiative in the Victorian Government's commitment to reduce energy costs, boost energy supply, create new jobs in the renewables sector and tackle climate change.
In 2021, Solar Victoria’s remit expanded to include the $47.5 million Solar for Business Program, the $335 million Home Heating and Cooling and Upgrades Program and the $46 million Zero Emissions Vehicle Subsidy Program.
Solar Victoria sponsored the Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy – Community Champion award in 2021.
Victorians across the state have embraced renewable energy like never before. Solar Victoria is proud of the impact they’ve had when it comes to helping Victorians take control of their energy bills, tackle climate change and build a cleaner, renewable future for us all.

Visual summary
This video shows people at their homes talking about their solar installations.
Speakers are:
- Jon, a dairy farmer
- Ian, a homeowner
- Noelene and Steve, homeowners
- Stan Krpan, CEO of Solar Victoria
Text:
Jon: It's pretty nice to get a bill power bill half the size it was previously. And that adds up pretty quickly.
Ian: It makes perfect sense to have power from the sun. I mean it's it's free, it's there.
Noelene: Just using your power it’s no different, but when you get your bills it's much different.
Steve: Oh yeah!
Narrator: This year thanks to you we've had a pretty big impact.
Victorians across the state have embraced renewable energy like never before.
Our solar rebates have supported the installation of a massive 892.2 megawatts of solar across the state since the program began, resulting in 121.2 million dollars in rebates paid out this year alone.
Our rebates have saved the average Victorian solar household hundreds of dollars on their energy costs and supported around 3,000 solar jobs.
Our new solar for business rebate has already supported 98 small businesses to save with solar.
And our zero emissions vehicle subsidy is helping more Victorians to get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle.
With home heating and cooling upgrades, we're helping low-income and vulnerable households become more energy efficient.
Meaning lower energy costs for those who need it most.
Stan Krpan: Although it was a very challenging year it was also a fantastic one for the difference that we made.
Narrator: We're proud of the impact we've had and we couldn't have done it without you embracing solar, tackling climate change, and building a cleaner renewable future for us all.
