Sustainability Through Your Own Lens Photography Competition
About the competition
The Sustainability Through Your Own Lens photography competition celebrates student creativity through imagery and a written reflection.
This year’s theme is 'Building a climate-ready future'.
Climate change brings new challenges to the places we use every day, like our homes, schools, parks, and roads. As weather events become more frequent or intense, this theme encourages students to reflect on how people, places, and nature are preparing and adapting. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more climate-ready future.
Winners Announced
Entries have closed for the ResourceSmart Schools program's Sustainability Through Your Own Lens photography competition and the 2025 winners have been announced.
Congratulations to all the winners, and a special thank you to all the students that entered the competition.

Water
Water is a very important natural resource to all living things. It provides a habitat to all water animals and plants . It is a key necessity to all living things, including people. We can all make small changes that make big differences, such as keeping rubbish out of our waterways and not wasting water. So please help the world and its water today!
St Paul's Anglican Grammar School, Traralgon - Ella - Year-3
Middle years: Years 5 to 8

Future
To me, building a climate ready future is about preparing the next generation on how to take care of our environment. After years of creating damage to our climate, our generation and those who come after us, will be the one to change that. To branch together and to move forward and plant the next seed. Even something so small, can make a huge difference.
Greater Shepparton Secondary College - Savannah - Year 7
Senior school: Years 9 to 12

Growing towards a better future
This image illustrates the small, simple wonders of our world. The ability of this dandelion to grow back strong and vibrant after a cold, harsh winter is remarkable. To build a climate-ready future, we must protect these things that provide us with pollination and stable habitats, ensuring these treasures of life are safe.
Upper Yarra Secondary College, Yarra Junction - A'isha - Year 9
Highly commended by RMIT’s Bachelor of Sustainability and Environment

Rainbow
The image of the two-rainbow lorikeet nestled among the eucalyptus branches reflects what a climate ready future means to me: protecting biodiversity and the ecosystems that sustain it. A climate future is one where all kinds of wildlife continue to thrive alongside of us, with access to healthy environments, clean air, and stable weather. Building this future requires a nation-wide effort, to preserve natural habitats, reduce emissions, and live more sustainably so that the beauty of nature can continue to flourish.
