Premier's Sustainability Awards – How to enter

The 2021 Premier's Sustainability Awards are open for entries. The entries close on Friday 30 July at 5 pm.

The award categories have been revamped this year to represent exceptional sustainability outcomes that can be delivered by projects and initiatives, and link to the globally-accepted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

On 21 June we presented information about the revised award categories, new award types and how to enter.

1. Choose an award category

To choose the right category, consider your initiative and what outcome it is trying to achieve.

  • Clean, affordable and secure energy – providing clean, affordable and secure energy for all Victorians.
  • Climate action – taking action to combat and adapt to climate change and its impacts.
  • Healthy environment – the protection or enhancement of Victoria’s natural environment.
  • Social and economic justice – achieving equal rights and equitable opportunities for all Victorians.
  • Sustainable places creating places and communities that are sustainable, resilient and livable.
  • Waste reduction and circular economy – the responsible consumption and production of resources, and promoting circular economy principles.

2. Choose an award type

Once you have chosen your category, you will be asked to select which award type applies to you or your organisation.

Community Champion Award

  • Individuals.
  • Small charity, not-for-profit, or community group with an annual revenue under $250,000.
  • Business with less than 20 employees.
  • Child care centre, kindergarten or primary or secondary school.
  • Borough, rural city or shire.

Industry Leader Award

  • Medium or large charity, or a not-for-profit, with an annual revenue of $250,000 or more.
  • Business with 20+ employees.
  • TAFE, university or other higher education institution.
  • Municipal city.
  • Victorian state government department, agency or authority.

3. Your entry

Entries for the 2021 Premier’s Sustainability Awards are required to enter projects that were completed in 2020.

Entry submissions can include documentation such as graphs or media coverage, photos or videos to support the responses to these 5 questions:

  1. What were the objectives of your initiative? (300 words maximum)
  2. How did you implement your initiative? Describe the process and any challenges you faced. (300 words maximum)
  3. What were the sustainability outcomes and results of your initiative in 2020? (300 words maximum)
  4. How did your initiative engage stakeholders and use partnerships to achieve sustainable outcomes? (300 words maximum)
  5. How could your initiative be continued or expanded in the future? (300 words maximum)

The most successful entries:

  • tell their story clearly
  • explain the broader and lasting value of the initiative
  • express their passion for sustainability
  • provide relevant, clear supporting evidence materials.

Why enter the awards?

Entering is easy and free: The submission process is simple to complete and our team can assist you with any queries you may have.

Publicity: If you go on to become a finalist, a media release will be written and distributed on your behalf, and social media content provided.

Media outreach includes:

  • sustainability media
  • local councils
  • industry
  • representative bodies
  • suburban and regional media
  • social media channels.

All publicity materials are provided to finalists. Receive public recognition at the highest level in the state.

Share the learnings: The awards are a great platform to tell your inspiring story and to hear from others. Entrants are among the most innovative sustainability leaders in Victoria. You’ll be sure to learn something new.

Be recognised: Attain acknowledgement for the innovative work, expertise and vision demonstrated by your organisation. Enhance your community standing and corporate reputation by demonstrating your commitment to sustainability.

Review and reflect: Entering the awards is a great opportunity to reflect on the successes you and your organisation have achieved in sustainability. It's also a great way to demonstrate to your staff that their efforts in sustainability are publicly recognised.

Networking opportunities: If you are a finalist, you’ll be invited to attend the awards ceremony, where you’ll have a chance to network with environmental, industry and government groups and industry peers. And maybe even win!
