Invest in a reusable advent calendar

Cut down on waste and ditch the single-use advent calendar in favour of buying or making something reusable.

Single-use advent calendars can be difficult to recycle, but a reusable alternative will help your family create a special tradition to carry on year after year.

Look out for sustainable options made from fabric or wood, and get creative with the daily surprises, like homemade treats, small eco-friendly toys, handwritten poems and jokes, craft supplies, personal vouchers or even money.

If you want your Christmas to be more about giving than receiving, you could organise a reverse advent calendar where you and your loved ones commit to one act of kindness each day.

This could include donating items to local charities, offering to help a friend or neighbour with gardening or babysitting, or surprising someone at your local café by shouting them a coffee.
