Austeng is a finalist for an Industry Leader award in the Premier's Sustainability Awards 2021 – Climate action category. Creating a Bridge to Greener Building
Austeng's procurement for innovation process sought to stimulate market demand and supply of innovative clean technology. In April 2021, the project saw two timber bridges over Cowes Creek in North Geelong replaced with new innovative 'age-defying' bridges. It demonstrated the benefits of combining climate change and innovation with long-term sustainability outcomes, creating a clean technology product.
The combination of materials resulted in an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions in production and helped prevent 'concrete cancer' whilst offering high levels of strength and durability.
