Our new funding will support Victoria’s transition to a circular economy by encouraging the development of grassroots local solutions for waste avoidance, repair and reuse of goods, and correct recycling of materials.
The funds are offered through Recycling Victoria, the Victorian Government's 10-year, $380 million action plan and investment that will transform the state’s recycling sector, create thousands of jobs and set Victoria up for a more sustainable future.
Collectively, the Recycling Victoria Councils Fund and Recycling Victoria Communities Fund will offer more than $11 million in support to councils and community organisations. Recipients will lead collaborative projects reducing waste to landfill and increasing the value of resources in their communities through re-use, repair and share.
As we look to the future, action on waste is needed at every scale. These programs empower communities and councils with an entrepreneurial spirit to develop impactful, locally-relevant approaches to waste avoidance. They are an important step towards a truly circular economy built on smart and sustainable use of resources – in our backyard, and beyond.
The Recycling Victoria Communities Fund provides more than $5.4 million over four years for social enterprises, not-for-profits and community organisations to collaborate and explore smarter ways of using resources and materials in their local area.
Funded organisations will receive grants of between $25,000 and $250,000 for projects to increase reuse, repair and share opportunities in their communities. The goal is to minimise litter, illegal dumping and waste to landfill.
Projects like repair sheds, communal gardens, tool libraries and skills workshops will inspire Victorians to look at the resources available to them in a new way and challenge their perceptions of waste and its value.
These localised initiatives promise to build social connection and engage communities in waste solutions and opportunities meaningful to them.
Applications close 19 March 2021. An information session will be held on 9 February at 2pm.
Go to the Recycling Victoria Communities Fund.
The Recycling Victoria Councils Fund provides almost $6 million over four years to the 79 Victorian councils and four alpine resort management boards to establish tailored local and regional circular economy projects.
Funded projects will receive grants of up to $500,000 to develop and implement impactful and locally relevant waste solutions. Projects will focus on reducing the amount of waste going to landfill or increasing the volume of materials reused, repaired, repurposed or recycled – while creating local circular economy jobs.
Councils are at the forefront of waste collection, recycling and disposal in their municipalities, including managing its costs – both financial and environmental. This footprint will be reduced through a place-based transition to a circular economy focused on waste avoidance and getting maximum value from resources. This will also boost local employment and economic growth.
Applicants are encouraged to amplify their impact by working together to develop creative joint solutions to waste, such as the purchase of shared processing equipment.
Applications close 19 March 2021. An information session will be held on 9 February at 10am.
