Around 24,000 Victorian households will only have to pay half of the cost to install a solar PV system and then can potentially save up to $890 per year through their solar panels.
The Solar Homes Package announced yesterday by the Victoria Government includes 50 per cent rebate on the cost of a solar PV system, up to a maximum of $2,225 or a $1,000 rebate on the cost of a solar hot water system.
Solar Victoria is being established as a dedicated entity within Sustainability Victoria to work with industry, regulators and training organisations to deliver the package.
Stan Krpan, Sustainability Victoria CEO, said that in delivering the Solar Homes Package, Solar Victoria will require the highest standards in safety and quality assurance.
“Under the Solar Homes Package, solar panel systems will only be installed by accredited solar installers using approved products,” he said.
Until 30 June, 2019, the package provides a 50 per cent rebate on the cost of a solar PV system, up to $2,225 (equivalent to the current price for an average 4kW system).
“The package also includes a $1,000 rebate on solar hot water systems for 6,000 households. Typical households can save $160–$400 per year on their bills from solar hot water,” said Mr Krpan.
To be eligible each household must have a combined income less than $180,000 per annum. The applicant must be the owner-occupier of a home valued at less than $3 million, and can only claim one rebate in the Solar Homes Package (only a solar PV or a solar hot water rebate, not both).
For the solar panel program, eligible householders must also choose a Clean Energy Council (CEC) Approved Product and use a CEC Accredited Installer. Approved Installers will be required to hold an unrestricted Class A Electrical License registered with Energy Safe Victoria, be accredited by the Clean Energy Council Solar Accreditation Scheme, and have not received any WorkSafe Infringements in the past three years.
To be eligible for a rebate on a solar hot water system, householders must choose a product form the Clean Energy Regulator's register of approved solar hot water heaters.
Registration forms for solar PV and solar hot water systems, and information on how to become an accredited installer, can be found can be found on the Solar Victoria website.
