Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria and Sustainability Victoria join forces

From 1 July 2009, Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria and Sustainability Victoria have joined forces.

"Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria has a 40-year history in combatting litterers and promoting tidy towns, clean beaches and sustainable cities. Now with the backing of the Victorian Government's Sustainability Victoria, that proud history can continue and expand," the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings said.

Sustainability Victoria will house Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria at its CBD office. Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria will continue to run the programs which have made Victorian towns and cities cleaner for the past four decades.

Victorians lead Australia in "doing the right thing", with the National Litter Inventory showing the volume of litter collected to be 4.19 litres per 1,000 m² compared to a national average of 8.58 litres.

"Sustainability Victoria's collaboration with Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria to combat littering and promote sustainable living is a great fit," said Sustainability Victoria CEO Anita Roper. "Both organisations can now work together towards a common goal."

"We are delighted to be joining forces with Sustainability Victoria," said Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria chairman, Max Spedding. "This move will strengthen our organisation and allow us to continue the good work for which we are famous."

The collaboration was announced at the annual Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria awards for Sustainable Cities and Clean Beaches on 29th May 2009.

Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria made the move on 1 July 2009. Amongst the programs it will continue to administer are:

  • Sustainable Communities - Tidy Towns
  • Clean Beaches
  • Sustainable Cities
  • Adopt a Roadside
  • Stationeers
  • Clean Site

The Keep Australia Beautiful Awards and programs are being managed by Katrina Woolfe in the Sustainable Living group of Sustainability Victoria.
