SV's aim is to provide statewide leadership in waste management. We lead and coordinate the implementation of the 2005 Sustainability in Action: Towards Zero Waste Strategy (TZW), and work closely with the waste industry, others within the environment portfolio and local government to reduce waste and increase resource recovery.
Our three year waste outcomes include increased recovery of resources (75% recovered for reuse, recycling or energy generation), arrested/reduced growth in waste generated (1.5 million tonnes reduced) and reduced littering (25% reduction in littering behaviours compared to 2003).
We will also work to improve materials and energy efficiency in selected sectors to help achieve the Victorian Government's policy objectives of reducing the pressures on the cost of living and the cost of doing business; ensuring secure, reliable energy supply and distribution; and reducing environmental harm from emissions.
