5 Star homes
The 5 Star standard for residential homes ensures that new homes in Victoria are built to incorporate certain environmental features.
As a result of 5 Star, Victorians will enjoy new homes that are:
- better quality and more comfortable
- more affordable
- environmentally sound
- good for Victoria's economy
Compliance with the 5 Star standard requires a 5 Star energy rating for the building fabric plus water-savings measures, and the installation of either a rain water tank or a solar hot water service.
Applying the 5 Star standard
This practice note contains information about applying the 5 Star standard to extensions & relocations:
NB: FirstRate programs have not been designed to rate extensions. We recommend you apply Deemed to Satisfy provisions as per the BCA or contact the Building Commission or a registered Building Surveyor for more information.
