Disposal of Smoke Detectors Update
Did you know? That you can dispose of house-hold smoke detectors with your household rubbish. They contain only a very small amount of radioactivity (less than 40 kBq), and have therefore been declared not to be a radiation source under Victorian legislation. There is probably more radioactivity in a cubic metre of dirt than there is in one domestic smoke detector.
Commercial smoke detectors containing more than 40 kBq of radioactive material must be disposed of by returning to the supplier or manufacturer.

What can I do to Detox My Home?
You can take all household substances to a Detox Your Home collection. All containers should be 20 litres or less. We do not accept: farm, industrial and commercial-use chemicals, asbestos, ammunition or flares. View the full list of accepted items.
