Stan Krpan - Chief Executive Officer, Sustainability VictoriaStan Krpan

Stan has extensive experience in executive roles in Victorian public sector organisations. Prior to his appointment in January 2012, Stan was General Manager Governance at Sustainability Victoria. In 2011, he completed a review of the strategic direction of the organisation. The review sets the foundation for SV to develop a new strategic plan and transform the way it works to deliver government programs with economy-wide benefits. In 2010, Stan undertook an independent review of the Environment Protection Authority Victoria and its approach to compliance and enforcement. The Report was published in February 2011 and its recommendations endorsed in full. The review forms a blueprint for the transformation of EPA and underpins its 5 year strategic plan. The report has influenced the regulatory strategies of a number of Australian regulators.

Stan is one of Victoria's leading regulatory practitioners. He has held senior executive roles in government as the Acting Executive Director of WorkSafe Victoria - Victoria's Health and Safety regulator and was the head of WorkSafe's enforcement division for 5 years. Stan has also led major reforms of WorkSafe's approach to regulation, enforcement and prosecution. These reforms, the transformation of WorkSafe's prevention and targeting model and internal culture have contributed to Victorian businesses reducing the state's injury rates to the lowest on record. Stan has experience in delivering government business support and prevention programs. He was a key leader in Australia's harmonisation of OHS laws and regulatory approaches across 9 jurisdictions.

A lawyer by training, Stan has practised in private, community and government settings. He has a Masters in Law and has undertaken post-graduate research in the area of regulation. He undertakes guest lectures in post-graduate regulatory courses at leading Universities. He is a member of EPA Victoria's Risk and Audit Committee and is a Board Member of Infoxchange Australia. He is an alumni of Melbourne Business School (AMP 2007) and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2011 he undertook executive education in climate change economics at London School of Economics.
