Infrastructure for commerce and industry

The infrastructure grants program supports projects that improve resource recovery and solid waste management infrastructure in Victoria. Projects listed on this page are related to funding for commercial and industrial waste.

City Circle Recycling - December 2006CCR

City Circle Recycling was established in 1999 to promote the recycling of concrete and masonry waste within their demolition division.  

Sustainability Victoria provided a $200,000 grant to City Circle to help fund a mulcher, starscreen, grab and bell magnet to increase the recovery of construction and demolition materials. 

City Circle expects to divert an additional 42,450 tonnes within one year and up to 60,000 tonnes thereafter. The provision of equipment will assist City Circle Recycling's goal of producing and selling 150,000 tonnes of by-product within one year following the completion of this project. 

 

 

K R Castlemaine Foods - November 2006

KRSmallgoods producer K R Castlemaine Foods received a $98,000 grant from Sustainability Victoria to improve resource recovery.  

This funding has helped K R Castlemaine to undertake waste separation and recovery improvements including the construction of a dry waste recycling shed, containers for handling and transportation of compostables and conveyors and compactors for cardboard.

K R Castlemaine has seen an increase in waste recovery from 20% to 83% through the implementation of these systems. 2148 tonnes of waste have been diverted to date.  

 

Sancon Recycling - August 2006sancon

A shredder and expanded polystyrene machine have been installed at Sancon Recycling's site in Dandenong to increase the recovery of plastics including those coded 4-7.

Sustainability Victoria contributed $60,000 towards the new equipment, which is expected to immediately increase resource recovery by seven tonnes a day, increasing to nine tonnes by the second year of operation.

 

 

 

Mossrock Australia - February 2006

Mossrock Australia Equipment in ActionA $135,300 grant has been provided to Mossrock Australia Pty Ltd to purchase new industrial equipment that converts timber waste into high grade garden mulch. Mossrock has estimated it will divert 25,000 tonnes of timber waste from landfill in the plant's first year of operation and 30,000 tonnes each year thereafter.

Mossrock Australia will recycle a range of waste timbers at the Lyndhurst facility to produce high grade garden mulch products. The company will target the local construction and demolition, timber product and furniture manufacturing industries to provide large quantities of timber waste as raw material for mulch production.

Mossrock Australia also has a confirmed customer for its product, having been recently contracted to provide recycled mulch for extensive landscaping along the 40 kilometre Melbourne Eastlink road project over the next three years

 

 

Cobb & Co Recyclers - June 2005

Completed Infrastructure at Cobb and CoFour plastic waste balers have been installed by Cob & Co Recyclers at four different locations across South West Regional Victoria with the aim of promoting business recycling.

EcoRecycle Victoria contributed $15,420 towards four balers at Clarkes Pies - Mortlake, Dairy Farmers - Simpson, and Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Dairy Farmers - Allansford (two balers).

The material compressed by the balers, mainly plastic and cardboard, will then be collected by Cob & Co Recyclers and recycled - previously all of this material ended up in landfill.

Cobb & Co Recyclers provides the South West region with an innovative and cost-effective recycling service to recover a range of raw materials, divert them from landfill and prepare them for re-manufacturing into new products.

 

Express Bins Recycling - June 2005

Completed Infrastructure at Express BinsExpress Bins was started over 12 years ago collecting waste on a daily basis for transfer to landfill.  In early 2004, Express Bins Recycling was established to compliment its skip bin collection service. 

EcoRecycle provided a $28,600 grant to assist the company in setting up an indoor facility to sort all waste from the company's skip bin service.

Express Recycling recycles 600m3 and diverts 600m3 of waste per month of brick, concrete, soil, timber, metal, steel, plastic, paper, green waste received from collected Express Bins.

Express Bins Recycling are committed to the reduction of waste are working towards achieving their goal of being able to recycle all materials which come through their facility.

 

Visy Glass - June 2005

EcoRecycle Victoria has contributed $200,000 to assist the upgrade of the Visy Recycling Automated Glass Sorting Plant at Laverton. Recycling glass at VisyVisy Recycling receives all glass collected from domestic kerbside recycling, glass merchants and hotel type businesses for colour sorting before delivery to glass manufacturers to be remanufactured into new glass bottles and jars, insulation and glass abrasives. The upgrade to the facility, will mean an extra 20,000 tonnes of glass will be recovered per year, bringing the total to 100,000 tonnes per year - that's equivalent to about 27,000 slabs of beer.

The project forms part of a long term strategy to ensure a sustainable market for container and commercial glass across Victoria, not just metropolitan Melbourne. Visy Recycling has invested over $19 million in glass recycling facilities in Victoria.
