Other house energy rating software

NatHERS

NatHERS is the other CSIRO 1st Generation energy rating software programs recognised under the national scheme.

NatHERS is a sophisticated house energy rating simulation program developed by the CSIRO. Although FirstRate has been designed to ensure that its ratings match the NatHERS ratings, the programs differ in their methods of data entry. In addition, FirstRate will typically take substantially less time to complete a rating.

The cost of undertaking ratings will generally be less using FirstRate. Before using NatHERS, you should read the following guidelines:

BERS 3.2

BERS 3.2 meets the BCA first generation software protocols. It incorporates the NatHERS engine and can still be used for assessments until only second generation software protocols apply. This graphics based program was available for 10 years until it was withdrawn by the developer, Solar Logic, in 2006.  Training and user support ceased 6 months after the release of BERS Pro.

2nd Generation Tools

The national scheme is moving towards 2nd generation software tools. 1st generation tools (such as FirstRate 4) may still be used in Victoria until the end of April 2009. Currently two other software tools comply with the national protocols, although others may become available.

AccuRate

AccuRate was developed by CSIRO and is the 2nd Generation successor to the NatHERS software. It provides a sophisticated method of measuring the energy performance of homes. More information can be found at http://www.hearne.com.au/.

BERS Pro

BERS Pro meets the BCA second generation protocols. It has undergone NatHERS/AGO accreditation.

BERS Pro incorporates a state of the art 2-D graphical user interface to the CSIRO thermal simulation engine, maintaining a balance between speed of use and accuracy.
