Towards Zero Waste

Towards Zero Waste

Launched in 2005, the Victorian Government's Towards Zero Waste Strategy is a call to action for all Victorians to minimise the amount of waste that we generate and maximise opportunities for recovering materials.

The strategy sets four statewide targets for waste reduction, resource recovery and littering, and specific targets and actions for Victoria's municipal and business sectors to deliver more sustainable use of resources by 2014. This assessment reports on Victoria's progress towards zero waste for the 2006-07 year.

Please consider the environment before printing this document.

Summary of results

  • 62% of all Victoria's solid waste was recycled in 2006-07
  • Victoria's municipal, commercial & industrial and construction & demolition sectors exceeded their 2006-07 resource recovery targets
  • Victoria is still on track to meet Towards Zero Waste targets by 2014
