IN THE KNOW - Issue 157 - June 2015
Welcome to the June edition of In the Know and happy World Environment Day. This year’s theme is - Seven billion dreams. One planet. Consume with care. It couldn’t be more relevant to our work in helping Victorians to use our valuable resources more efficiently and sustainably.
This month, we’re seeing the successful results of previous SV funding opportunities, including the trial application of a product developed by Close the Loop (in partnership with EDI Downer) to commercialise an asphalt additive that uses a mix of cartridge toner, ground tyres and waste oil. This new asphalt additive, coupled with additional recycled content such as recycled glass and asphalt, constitutes a road that is 99% recycled!
It’s also great to see a number of Victorian school installing solar panel systems and reducing their greenhouse gas emission and electricity bills, thanks to Victorian Government funding.
We welcome new board members to the Sustainability Victoria board and say farewell to outgoing chair Lydia Wilson.
And if all that wasn’t enough we’re gearing up for awards season with entries now open for the Premier’s Sustainability Awards and the 2015 Victorian Landcare Awards.
For more info about all of these and more, keep reading as they’re all in this month’s edition of In the Know.
