IN THE KNOW - Issue 161 - October 2015
Welcome to the October edition of In the Know.
Today saw the launch of the Victorian Organics Resource Recovery Strategy – a long-term plan to better manage organic waste in Victoria. This is an exciting opportunity to address challenges and gaps in current organics practices and strengthen the organics recovery market. A new project launched by Gippsland’s Gibsons Groundspread is a great example of the opportunities that exist for the organics recovery industry.
We’re excited to announce the finalists for both the 2015 Premier’s Sustainability Awards (PSAs) and the ResourceSmart Education Awards. I am always inspired at these events by people’s passion and dedication. Congratulations to all of our finalists.
We also recently launched a solar installation project at Mazenod College and a mattress recycling program at Bairnsdale Tip Shop, thanks to Victorian Government funding.
Community consultation is underway for the Household Chemical Collection Program and Victoria’s future e-waste management, along with market sounding activities for waste and resource recovery infrastructure in the North East, Goulburn Valley and Loddon Mallee regions. I encourage you to find out more about these projects and get involved.
And lastly, a reminder that the Waste Expo is on this Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. I’ll be presenting along with a number of Sustainability Victoria staff – we look forward to seeing you there.
For more info about all of these, keep reading as it’s all in this month’s edition of In the Know.
