Collection services for household chemicals and targeted products

These free services enable householders to dispose of potentially dangerous household chemicals and a number of targeted products (paint, household batteries and compact florescent lights) safely and easily without harming human health or the environment. The services, administered by Sustainability Victoria, are delivered in partnership with local governments and funded by the Victorian landfill levy.

The services are delivered via two collection systems:

  • An annual mobile collection service for the safe disposal of household chemicals at 31 locations across Victoria.
  • A network of permanent Victorian drop-off sites accessible all year round for Victorian residents to dispose of paint, household batteries and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and in some instances, propane gas bottles*.

All Victorian householders can use both services at any location for free.

Some mobile collections will accept paint, household batteries and fluorescent lights this year as new permanent drop-off sites are still being established.

Please see the details of your mobile collection below to confirm if paint, household batteries, or fluorescent lights will be collected. Register for upcoming mobile collections in 2014.

Neither service accepts commercial quantities of chemicals. Businesses should instead use a chemical waste disposal service provider.
