The 2015 ResourceSmart Education Awards ceremony was held on Wednesday 14 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Wharf.

The ResourceSmart Education Awards - Victoria’s largest sustainability awards program for schools and early childhood services - reward and recognise a huge range of imaginative and inspiring activities that have led to outstanding sustainability achievements for the Victorian community.
Winters Flat is an impressive leader in education for a sustainable future, embedding sustainability in their curriculum and engaging students’, parents and the broader community. They embed sustainability into their curriculum and engage students, parents and the broader community.
Their student-led action team ‘Eco Kids - Community Leaders’, engages students from grades 3 to 6, who lead on events and activities to create a sustainable school. Leaders attend conferences, workshops and community meetings to improve their understanding of environmental impacts while developing their presentation skills. The students also have nude food every day and don't send any organic matter to landfill.
It is through programs like ResourceSmart Schools that moments like this occur,” explained Jeanette McMahon, ResourceSmart Primary Teacher of the Year – Winters Flat Primary School.
Our students are empowered, feel listened to and have the support and help to take action. It provides rich and real opportunities for the students to be change makers.
The local mayor, Cr Christine Henderson, attended Winters Flat Primary School following the awards event. She was impressed with the student leadership, passion, knowledge, ideas and awareness.
