The Game Meats Company located near Myrtleford is an abattoir which processes game meat such as goats, emu, deer and ostrich meat.
The project involved installing a heat exchanger to recover heat from the refrigeration plant to preheat boiler feedwater which included the installation of new insulated boiler feed water tank, associated pumps and piping.
The project aim was to reduce gas energy use and to avoid the need to buy a larger boiler which would have been a large capital outlay for the business.
Due to the heat recovery system, boiler feed water was preheated from 10 ͦC to 50 ͦC. The company was able to avoid the cost of new larger boiler which would have cost $50,000. The project also led to 20% annual gas cost savings and reduced maintenance costs.
